Practice Schedule and Calendar

The LFSC Age Group Distance Duck Meet was begun in 1980 by Coach Maureen as part of the LFSC program philosophy of career development. The meet provides a unique opportunity for our younger swimmers to achieve in events not normally offered to them at regular meets. The meet offers a great opportunity for personal improvement, helps establish an awareness of the relationship between practice and performance, provides an on-going evaluation of aerobic development, and makes the transition to senior events easier.

Swimmers participate in either the 200 free (Mighty Ducks and some novice swimmers), the 400 free (Yellow group and most Green Group swimmers), or the 1500 free (Bronze Group and some Green Group swimmers). The primary goal of the meet is to reinforce the concept of personal improvement over time and to encourage the development of a well-rounded aerobic training foundation prior to the senior swimming years.

All swimmers receive participation awards recording their personal improvement. The ultimate award is the “Distance Duck” T-shirt, awarded to swimmers who break the 20 minute barrier in the 1500 free. Since 1980 only 60 LFSC age group swimmers (24 boys and 36 girls) have achieved this distinction.

Distance Duck Meet, Wednesday

The Distance Duck Meet will be held this Wednesday, June 15, at the Lake Forest College pool during our regular practice time

1500 free warm-up @ 6:00am

  400 free warm-up @ 6:30am

  200 free warm-up @ 7:00am

We will start the meet as soon as we complete warm-up. All swimmers are expected to assist with lap counting. We also need a few volunteer timers from the stands.

Coach Mo started the Distance Duck Meet in 1981 as a challenge event for age group swimmers to test themselves and measure their progress over time. The meet serves as a motivational tool and reinforces the competitive principle of competing against yourself first and foremost.

Swimmers compete in either the 1500 free (Bronze Squad and some Green Squad) or the 400 Free (most Green Squad and all Yellow Squad). In 2000 we introduced Mighty Ducks swimmers to the Distance Duck Meet in the the 200 free. Each swimmer races against their own Best Time with a special prize (The Big Drop Award) given for the swimmer who drops the most time.

Swimmers who complete the 1500 free in 20 minutes or faster are crowned LFSC Distance Ducks with a special t-shirt designed by Paul Luhmann, one of the original 1981 Distance Ducks. Since 1981 only 73 swimmers have achieved Distance Duck status and worn this special T-shirt.
