The Green Squad is our "meat and potatoes" age group squad that teaches young swimmers how to practice. Using the skills developed in the Mighty Ducks and Yellow Squad, Green Squad swimmers work to establish an aerobic fitness foundation that supports both endurance and speed.
Following our Long Term Athlete Development philosophy we gradually increase physcial demands along age and maturity paths. This slow and steady aproach to building skills and physical capacity has allowed many LFSC swimmers to enjoy great success throughout their careers.
Swimmers in the Yellow Squad range in age from 9-13 and are able to consstently demonstrate the Foundation Skills learned in the Mighty Ducks and Yellow Squad. Competition is strongly recommended for all Green Squad swimmers. Practice attendance of 3-4 sessions/week has proven to be the best developmental path for Green Squad swimmers.
The following Foundation Skills and fitness capabilities are necessary for proper development in the Green Squad:
Perform all competitive strokes legally on a repetitive basis
Consistently perform all starts, turns and relay skills legally
Perform 8 x 100 freestyle @ 2:30 with good stroke integrity
Perform 4 x 50 kick of each stroke @ 2:00
Achieve a Distance Duck 400 meter free of 10:00
Some, but not all, swimmers are invited to try the Bronze Squad after demonstrating the competitive results, training ability and attendance commitment required. Progress reports for Green Squad swimmers are made approximately 3 times during each season and are available from the coaches at that time.
