WOW!!! Awesome Performances At The Distance Duck Meet!!!

    LFSC Distance Duck Meet

What a great showing from our Age Group swimmers at the Distrance Duck Meet!

In the 1500 free ... Colin Kingsley blasted his way to a new Distance Duck Record with a time of 17:13.73, taking down the 1998 record of Justin Gorson ("The Gorse") ... Mary Grace King ripped through the 20 minute barrier with a time of 19:02.24, becoming our newest Distance Duck ... Colin Jette captured Big Drop Honors for boys besting his previous BT by 5:10 ... Abby Reich grabbed the Big Drop award for girls with a time drop of 2:11 ...

The 400 free was equally exciting as Delaney Umbleby chased the 1998 Meet Record, falling just a bit short with a time of 6:03.22 ... Katie Borgerding was the girls Big Drop winner with a 2:03 BT ... Nate Steele was the boys Big Drop champ with a drop of 1:05.

Emily Martuszewski and Sienna Soroka were our only Mighty Ducks competitors and we look forward to great swims from them in the future.

First Timers Were Great and A New Record

    LFSC Distance Duck Meet

Colin Kingsley broke his own Distance Duck record in the 1500 with a time of 17:40.90. That time is also under his Illinois State Record but is an un-official record as the meet was not a sanctioned event.

Big Drop Awards (greatest time drop) go to Isabella Piatek and Colin Kingsley in the 1500, Cassidy Meyer and Clayton Reich in the 400. Be sure to pick up your award in practice.

First Timer 1500 recognition goes out to Connor Boyle, Abby Reich, Dylan Walsh, Ben Longeway, Win Thuente and Katie Meier. And ... Audrey Zimmerman, Aliah Levinson and Cassidy Meyer each posted times in the 400 that make them eligible for the 1500 free next December!

    Congratulations to all!

Distance Duck Results . . . New LFSC and State Records!

    Extra! Extra!

    Read All About it!

New LFSC and Illinois Records Set at the Distance Duck Meet!

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Distance Duck Meet last Staurday. Every swimmer recorded a new Best Time with huge time drops from the veterans. And a special THANK YOU to our meet officials Steve Good, Kate Good, Pete Reich and Eric Meier, and all volunteer timers for the event.

Clap your hands for Colin Kingsley for his new LFSC Distance Duck record in the 11/12 Boys 1500. His time (17:41.99) was also an Illinois State and Open Age Group Record. Mary Grace King joined the record rush with a new 10&under Girls Illinois State and Open Record of 20:25.84. She just missed the Distance Duck record set by Rachel Stoehr in 2004 (20:24.56) in an un-sanctioned vent.

"The Big Drop Award", given to swimmers who achieve the greatest time improvement, went to George Bentley and Anna Gates (1500 free), and to Thomas Holecek and Cassidy Meyer (400 free).

The next Distance Duck Meet is set for mid-June, dates and details TBA. Check the links below for more information and results.

    Distance Duck Meet Results

LFSC Distance Duck Meet - June 6, 2015

It's been a little hectic here lately but we wouldn't want to forget to recognize all of our Distance Duck Meet competitors. We had a great turnout for the meet and nearly 100% Best Times for the meet.

Congratulations to Nathan Gates and Bora Hopali, our newest Distance Ducks! Welcome to the Club.

     Awards . . .

Distance Duck     Nathan Gates, 17:55.98     Bora Hopali, 19:46.58

Big Drop 1500     Nathan Gates, 2:41            Saige Joseph, 2:17

Big Drop 400       Jessica Gitzinger, 1:30       Ben Longeway, :32

Mark the calendar for December 2015 and the next Distance Duck Meet.

Coach Mo established the Distance Duck Meet in 1981 as a test of toughness and to help age group swimmers understand that new events were not really all that scary. For 34 years we have continued the challenge and tradition of the meet every December and June. Almost every age group swimmer has participated, starting with the 400 free and progressing to the 1500.

The Distance Duck Meet originally had only 2 events, the 400 and 1500 free, and was restricted to 12 & under swimmers. Over time we have added the 200 free for Mighty Ducks and expanded entry to all non-High Schoolers. Awards however, have never changed: there are only three.

The first and most important award is the Pride and Satisfaction of competing in a new event or achieving a new personal best time. Our second award is The BIG Drop award, given to two swimmers in each event (Boy, Girl) who post the greatest time improvement. And the most prestigious award is the Distance Duck award.

The Distance Duck award is presented to any swimmer who completes the 1500 in under 20 minutes. This is a tough challenge, rewarded with a special t-shirt that can only be earned in the meet. No one, not even a Coach Mo, has ever received the Distance Duck T-shirt without besting the required time standard. The t-shirt and logo were designed by one of the very first Distance Ducks, Paul Luhmann,  in 1981 and has never changed.
