Think your child is ready for a little more swimming? Maybe you see a spark of enthusiasm every time you go to the pool. Or maybe you know that swimming is one of the best sports for teaching strong life skills and values, developing self-confidence and discipline, and builds strong healthy bodies. Maybe your child is ready to be a Lake  Forest Swim Club Mini Duck.

The Mini Ducks is an advanced swim lesson for children who are comfortable (floating) in the water but have not mastered arm strokes and breathing in freestyle or backstroke arms and kicking. In addition these swimmers need to be water safe and able to use a kickboard.

The goal of these lessons is to build on learning and listening skills, increase comfort in the water, let children explore movement, and put them on a path to joining the swim team. Teaching Fundamental Body Position, back stroke arms and kicking, and rhythmic freestyle side breathing are the target goals of the Mini Ducks.

Some swimmers will choose to join the competitive team in our entry level squad, the Mighty Ducks. Swimmers in the Mighty Ducks must be at least 5 years old, have a skill and learning evaluation with a LFSC coach (usually Coach Laurel), and demonstrate the following Foundation Skills:

Independent front and back float

Front float kicking with face in the water

Back float kicking with eyes on the ceiling and tummy up

Demonstrate basic water safety and group learning readiness

Other skills as may be necessary

Most swimmers will spend at least one year learning these skills and becoming comfortable in the general swim team environment. All swimmers must meet behavior rules established by the Lake Forest Swim Club or any facility we use.
